News > Pharmacies covered by Zahedan University of Medical Sciences offer free blood pressure checks during the Iranian National "High Blood Pressure Control Campaign” 2019

As many as 6.4 million people in Iran are living with undiagnosed high blood pressure, without knowing they are at risk. The Iranian Ministry of Health has planned the National "High Blood Pressure Control Campaign” 2019 to encourage as many people across the country to get their blood pressure checked.

A good way to monitor blood pressure in the society is through in-pharmacy blood-pressure monitoring and recording. As part of the Iranian National "High Blood Pressure Control Campaign” 2019, which is the Biggest Blood Pressure Check in Iran,  pharmacies across the country are being urged to join the event.

There are more than 13 free-standing blood pressure check stations located in pharmacies in the areas covered by Zahedan University of Medical Sciences. A member of trained pharmacy staff will take the clients" blood pressure in the privacy of a consultation corner. The result will be explained in simple words to the clients and in addition to a blood pressure prevention pamphlet, they will be receiving face-to-face training and advice needed to prevent or manage high blood pressure. These services support patients to self-monitor blood pressure as a cardiovascular disease screening service, often with referral to medical doctors when necessary.

"Over 40% of hypertensive patients in Iran are unaware they have high blood pressure."

Who is this service for?

Although all adults are at risk, people who fall into any of the below categories are  the target population for this campaign:

-  All Iranians 30 years and older

-  Patients with kidney disease in all age groups

- Pregnant women in all age groups
