With the expected surge in coronavirus-related cases, ZAUMS is taking critical steps to ensure the health safety and well-being of all those we serve. As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise, the Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) are taking part in an extraordinary push to assemble face shields and pack surgical masks for coronavirus protection, an activity organized and overseen by Zahedan University of Medical Sciences uses Incident Command System.
The Community Health Volunteers are among hundreds of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences volunteer groups who are either assembling the face shields or packing personal protection packs that will help healthcare workers use their surgical masks and N95 filtering respirators.
The Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) with Zahedan University of Medical Sciences (ZAUMS) have been working diligently to help ZAUMS health care facilities get the personal protective equipment they need to do their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. University Hospitals and health centers are grateful to all individuals and organizations willing to help our caregivers, patients and community during the COVID-19 crisis. A total of 20 CHVs have been actively involved in a this event by producing more than 2,000 face shields and packing 50,000 face masks to be used in hospitals, laboratories, as well as stockpiled for use in unforeseen future crises.
Along with healthcare workers stationed at rural and urban health units, more than 3000 CHVs also have been participated in a phone call screening to proactively contact the households under their coverage via phone numbers recorded in the household Electronic Health Records and complete an electronic COVID-19 screening questionnaire. So far, a total of 518 COVID-19 cases have been detected by CHVs.
It is worth mentioning that Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, with more than 10,000 CHVs, is one of the leading medical universities in the community participation and engagement in public health events across the country.
