Mental health services at the Shirabad Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) in Zahedan will be provided free-of-charge with the participation of the World Health Organization country Office.
"Increasing psychological problems and psychiatric disorders and consequently reducing the workforce productivity and the quality of life of people of different ages, highlights the importance of the need for specialized treatments and social support." Dr. Mehdi Zanganeh, Vice Chancellor for Health, Zahedan University of Medical Sciences said.
"As a result of social stigma and inadequate access to standard treatment and interventions in this field, as well as the economic and financial burden of specialized treatments on families and society, especially in the underprivileged neighborhoods, the follow up of mental health patients and their families after hospital discharge requires special attention and investment" he added.
He said:" Following the visit of Dr. Syed Jaffar Hussain, WHO Representative in Iran, to the Shirabad neighborhood of Zahedan, with the financial support from WHO and the Ministry of Interior, a mental health team consisting of psychiatrists, physicians, psychologists and social workers will provide a set of free-of-charge mental health services at the Shirabad Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) for the population residing in this area."
He continued: "In addition to empowerment, home visits, post-discharge telephone follow-up, patient and family education measures, social support for patients referred from psychiatric hospitals and comprehensive health service centers will be provided by CMHC social workers with inter-sectoral cooperation."
"We hope to see a reduction in social injuries and mental disorders by strengthening, developing and implementing psychological and social care intervention in the suburban areas of Zahedan." Dr. Zanganeh stated.
