At Razi Hospital in Saravan, the skull of an 8-year-old child, which was damaged and depressed as a result of a car accident, was successfully reconstructed with the aid of a custom-made 3D implant.
Custom-made 3D implants are prosthetics that are produced using 3D printing technology, specifically designed to meet the unique anatomical and surgical requirements of each individual patient.
According to the public relations report, Dr. Amini, a specialist surgeon at Razi Hospital, announced the successful execution of a cranioplasty (skull reconstruction) procedure on an 8-year-old patient. He elaborated that the child had experienced a depressed skull fracture and brain hemorrhage as a result of a car accident three months prior and had to undergo emergency surgery to evacuate the hematoma and extract the fractured bone fragments.
He mentioned that following complete recovery, the patient came back for skull reconstruction. At this point, a bone implant was created and produced by a medical firm utilizing 3D printing technology, specifically designed to fit the cranial defect. The implant was successfully inserted during the surgical procedure.
Dr. Amini elaborated that cranioplasty is an essential reconstructive procedure that enhances the patient’s appearance while also safeguarding the brain from possible harm and aiding in the maintenance of its normal function.
He concluded by stating that the surgery was performed with exceptional precision utilizing cutting-edge 3D technology to secure the optimal result for the patient. The child’s recovery has been progressing well, and he is anticipated to resume a normal life shortly.
