Free Epidemiology and Climate Change Symposium by AEA and IEA on 4 October from 2- 3:30 pm AEDT
Three experts from different countries within the Western Pacific region discuss the implications of climate change for the region and globally, with a focus on epidemiological and health issues of climate change that need to be addressed. The symposium will begin by three 20-minutes talks by the speakers below, followed by a 30-minutes panel discussion moderated by A/Prof. Brigid Lynch. This program is jointly organized by the Australasian Epidemiological Association, and the International Epidemiological Association, Western Pacific Region.

Professor Kathryn Bowen (Australia), will give an overview of the IPCC report, and state of play in terms of policy in the region.
Professor Simon Hales (New Zealand), will discuss methods used to estimate the burden of disease
attributable to climate change, and why quantifying these is critical.
Mr Timoci Naivalulevu, will discuss insights from Watershed Interventions for Systems Health in Fiji (WISH Fiji) and how climate change affects the burden of water-related diseases (typhoid, leptospirosis and
diarrhoea).
