Zahedan-Irna- Dr. Ghasem Miri- Aliabadi Vice Chancellor for Treatment of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences (ZUMS) said that more than 817 cases of cornea transplant have been conducted in Zahedan Al-Zahra sub-speciality Eye Hospital since the establishment of the department 10 years ago

Zahedan-Irna- Dr. Ghasem Miri- Aliabadi Vice Chancellor for Treatment of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences (ZUMS) said that more than 817 cases of cornea transplant have been conducted in Zahedan Al-Zahra sub-speciality Eye Hospital since the establishment of the department 10 years ago.
According to the Public Relations Office of ZAUMS, Dr. Miri-Aliabadi said that during the same period 142 cases of kidney transplant have also been conducted in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan. " It is not possible to take some measures required with regard to conducting transplant, but in case of availability of donors, coordination regarding the procedures will be made by ZAUMS." He added.

He said every year between 5000-8000 individuals are struck with brain death and the organs of each case can save the life of at least 8 people. "If all 50 percent organs, suitable for donation, are transplanted to those who are in waiting for receiving organ donation, a total of 24000 organ transplants will be conducted every year and thousands of lives will be saved." Dr. Miri added.
