Pakistan’s Independence 78th Anniversary of Islamabad Tehran Relations

As reported by an IRNA correspondent from Islamabad on Thursday, the Muslim population of Pakistan is set to commemorate the 78th anniversary of their nation's independence on August 14, following a 4-day conflict with their eastern neighbor, India, that occurred a few months prior. On this occasion, the Prime Minister and Army Chief of Pakistan extended their congratulations to the citizens on Independence Day, underscoring the nation's steadfast resolve and dedication to safeguarding its people and territorial integrity.

During the national Independence Day celebration in Islamabad, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif conveyed his appreciation to the nations that backed Pakistan's peaceful stance throughout the subcontinent conflict, notably the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He also highlighted the principled and consistent stance in favor of the Palestinians, stating that Pakistan's political, diplomatic, and moral backing for Palestine and the creation of an independent Palestinian state will persist.

August 14 marks Pakistan's Independence Day, while August 15 is recognized as India's Independence Day. The Indian subcontinent achieved liberation from British colonial rule in 1947, leading to the formation of Pakistan by Muslims in the western and eastern regions of India. Subsequently, in 1971, as a result of conflicts and civil strife, East Pakistan, now known as Bangladesh, gained independence from West Pakistan, which is currently referred to as Pakistan.

Despite the fact that India and Pakistan achieved independence from England on the same date, the actual dates of independence for these two nations are separated by one day. Iran was the first nation to acknowledge Pakistan's independence, while Pakistan was the first to recognize the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the formation of the Islamic Republic in that nation.

Today, Pakistani media aired a variety of programs to honor the anniversary of their country's founding, and simultaneously, numerous ceremonies took place in various cities, including Islamabad. The event commemorating Pakistan's National Day commenced with the firing of 31 gunshots in Islamabad (the federal capital) and the discharge of 21 cannons across four provinces in a symbolic gesture to honor the martyrs of the Pakistani freedom struggle and those who sacrificed their lives in the battle against terrorism within the country.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir extended their congratulations to the citizens on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the nation's independence through messages. They emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity between the populace and the government to effectively address both internal and external challenges, guiding the nation towards prosperity, progress, and the confrontation of adversaries.

Highlighting the necessity for cohesion among his fellow citizens to tackle challenges and adhere to the principles of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, revered as Quaid-e-Azam and the founder of Pakistan, Sharif urged for collaboration among all political factions within the country. This unity is essential to secure the nation's future and to collectively contribute to its development, irrespective of differing political affiliations.

During a special ceremony that took place in Islamabad, the Pakistani flag was raised. Shahbaz Sharif, honoring the leader of the country's independence, stated that Pakistan remains dedicated to the principles of its founder, and any attempts to sow discord between the nation and its armed forces will be thwarted.

Today, Pakistani political and military leaders gathered to pray for the stability, peace, and development of Pakistan by visiting the tomb of Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi and that of Allama Iqbal Lahori, the renowned Pakistani poet and philosopher, in Lahore, the capital of Punjab.

As the eastern neighbor of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Pakistan emerged as the world's seventh nuclear power and the first Islamic nation to possess nuclear capabilities after years of endeavor, culminating in a successful nuclear test in mid-1998.

Message from the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries

Reza Amiri Moghadam, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, extended his congratulations to the people and government of the friendly neighboring country on the occasion of Pakistan's independence anniversary. The message states: Coinciding with the 78th anniversary of Iran-Pakistan relations, it is noteworthy that Iran was the first nation to acknowledge the establishment of Pakistan and its independence. Undoubtedly, the strong and fraternal ties between the two nations have remained robust and flourishing for over seventy years.

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran further remarked: On this significant day, I take pride in honoring the values of this remarkable nation, as it represents a moment of pride to celebrate the relentless and extraordinary resilience, unity, and notable accomplishments of the great nation of Pakistan.

Amiri Moghadam expressed: We hold in high regard the ties of friendship, mutual respect, and cooperation that bind our countries. With the steadfast commitment of the senior officials from both nations, along with the substantial efforts from all sectors on both sides, a new era of hope and optimism in Iran-Pakistan relations has commenced, signifying a historic turning point in our comprehensive relations as we jointly pursue peace and prosperity. He concluded by stressing: We sincerely wish and pray for Pakistan to continue experiencing prosperity, comfort, peace, progress, and stability, and for the lasting friendship between our two great nations to be further reinforced.
