A total of 15 children with the cleft lip and palate underwent surgery at the Ali ibn Abitalib Hospital in Zahedan within three days by the efforts of charitable specialists.
Dr. Amir Gorgich, the Head of Ali ibn Abitalib Hospital, stated that cleft lip and palate surgeries are among the complex specialized surgeries that a surgeon may perform one or two operations of daily. He added that Dr. Sina Hakimi and Dr. Fath-Allah Roshan Zamir, two charitable specialists from the Mohkam Institute, deal with the high number of patients and work pressure, aiming to treat as many of these children as possible during each visit to Zahedan.
He further mentioned that these two specialists have been treating children with cleft lip and palate as part of a charitable medical team at this hospital for several years, and the people of the province and the healthcare system appreciate their efforts.
He also emphasized the importance of timely and complete treatment of cleft lip and palate problems, urging the families of these children to seek immediate medical advice from pediatric specialists or surgical specialists for the initiation of the child's treatment process.
He continued by stating that the treatment of this disorder in children should be based on a treatment and care plan that is suitable for the child's condition, which may begin at three months of age or during early childhood and continue until adolescence.
According to Dr. Gorgich, genetic and environmental factors play a role in the occurrence of cleft palate and lip, and parents can prevent some of these abnormalities by taking care during the pre-pregnancy and post-pregnancy periods.
