The commencement of Influenza vaccination scaling up efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus diseases in southeast of Iran
In a briefing session with provincial mass media, Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences Dr. Hasheni-Shahri stated that in the first phase of free distribution of influenza vaccine priority is given to high risk groups including pregnant women, patients with cancer, thalassemia, and hemophilia, as well as transplant recipients, prisoners and disabled patients.

In a briefing session with provincial mass media, Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences Dr. Hasheni-Shahri stated that in the first phase of free distribution of influenza vaccine priority is given to high risk groups including pregnant women, patients with cancer, thalassemia, and hemophilia, as well as transplant recipients, prisoners and disabled patients.
Dr. Hashemi said that in the first phase of free influenza vaccines distribution, comprehensive rural and urban health centers, based on data in electronic files of households (SIB databank), contact high risk groups individuals including pregnant women, patients with cancer, thalassemia, and hemophilia, as well as transplant recipients and ask them to turn to the nearby health center and get the influenza vaccine as scheduled.
With regard to coronavirus disease, the Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences stated that 14415 corona virus cases so far have been diagnosed, of which 85 % were successfully treated and 636 cases, unfortunately, succumbed to the disease. He said: “Our medical staff and healthcare workers render services to our people round the clock and we have preventive measures to implement restrictions and public health protocols that resulted in containing the spread of virus, and luckily the anticipated peak of the epidemic did not take place. Moreover, based on our field visits and other surveys hospitalized patients are satisfied with the services they receive for coronavirus disease.”
Referring to the third wave of coronavirus disease outbreak in the country, he pointed out that the spread rate is high, at this stage people of lower age are not safe and its indicative of the virus spreading in the society and if people implement health protocols there will be a decline in the number of infected cases.
Dr. Hashemi further noted that medical equipment, funding, human resources, and enough hospital beds have been provided and fortunately there is no shortage in this regard and necessary precautions have been taken with regard to response to a probable surge in the number of coronavirus infections in near future.
Dr. Tabatabaei Vice Chancellor for Health also said “The only way to tackle coronavirus epidemic is through observing social distancing and personal hygiene, and wearing masks. He thanked the media for their constructive role in social awareness rising from the onset of coronavirus disease pandemic and added that the media should continue with awareness rising, disseminating sound information, and alarming our citizens about false information and myths across the society.”
