Nowruz, known as the Persian New Year, is one of the most ancient celebrations in history and has been celebrated for around 4000 years in what is now Iran and in the extended cultural area known as Greater Iran.

Nowruz, known as the Persian New Year, is one of the most ancient celebrations in the human history and has been celebrated for around 4000 years in Iran and in the extended cultural area known as Greater Iran.
Nowruz is all about saying goodbye to winter and greeting the spring. Nowruz is the most important holiday in Iran, marking the official New Year of the country. It is the first day of Farvardin, the first month of the Iranian calendar. Nowruz has been celebrated for over 4,000 years in Iran. Nowruz remains the most important celebration for Iranians as well as for around 300 million people in the neighboring countries of Iran. This historic rite is observed on 21 March in many countries along the Silk Roads, including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
In recognition of the importance of this ancient rite, Nowruz was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. Moreover, in 2010, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March International Nowruz Day.
Zahedan University of Medical Sciences has been providing travel health and treatment services during the holidays. These services included: More than 5000 inspections of food supply centers and restaurants, confiscation of 5536 kilograms of perished foodstuff, shutting down of 23 food supply centers, attending 320 road accidents and transfer of 445 injured persons of these car crashes to the medical centers.
