Misuse of antibiotics puts us all at risk

Taking antibiotics when you don't need them speeds up antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistant infections are more complex and harder to treat. They can affect anyone, of any age, in any country.

Think twice. Seek advice

Antibiotics aren't always the answer. Always seek the advice of a healthcare professional before taking antibiotics.

Our time with antibiotics is running out

Antibiotics are in danger of losing their effectiveness due to misuse and overuse, and in many cases they aren't even needed.

According to the Public Relations Report, Dr. Mohammad Hassan Mohammadi, the Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, said: Dr. Nadjmi, an Iranian physician and philanthropist living in Belgium, along with E.N.T Surgeons from E.N.T. Department of ZAUMS, 3 plastic surgeons and 6 maxillofacial surgeons from Tehran, Mashhad, Babol and Zahedan, embarked on surgical treatment of patients with cleft palate and lip in Zahedan, Southeast of Iran on January 2, 2024.

He indicated that the age of these patients varied from 3 months to 33 years. Furthermore, he noted that all patients receive comprehensive services until their treatment is fully completed, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences and the Nadjmi Charity Foundation.

Dr. Mohammadi emphasized that these procedures are entirely free for patients in need, while others are required to pay only a minimal portion of the hospital fee. He remarked that such benevolent actions, which significantly impact the lives of patients, are invaluable legacies and commendable deeds, and those who contribute to this cause are truly blessed.

The Nadjmi Foundation (for smile) has successfully conducted 800 surgeries for cleft palates and lips at the Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (AS) and Al-Zahra (AS) hospitals. Additionally, the foundation has engaged in similar initiatives in the cities of Shiraz and Bandar Abbas.

Dr. Mohammadi emphasized the importance of post-operative care, stating that these patients should persist with various treatments to take full advantage of rehabilitative services, including speech therapy, orthodontic interventions, and mental health counseling.

An important agreement was signed in January 2024 between the Nadjmi Foundation  (for smile) and Zahedan University of Medical Sciences for the establishment of a specialized center dedicated to the care of patients with congenital anomalies, specifically cleft lip and palate, at Al-Zahra (SA) Hospital in Zahedan, Iran.

Nadjmi  Foundation (for smile) operates as an independent charitable organization recognized for its public interest status. With over two decades of philanthropic efforts across Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Iran, the foundation is dedicated to offering free-of-charge surgical services to children suffering from cleft deformities, including cleft lip and cleft palate. Additionally, it aims to strengthen local healthcare capabilities by training local surgeons in pediatric surgical practices and fostering research related to cleft care.
