Misuse of antibiotics puts us all at risk

Taking antibiotics when you don't need them speeds up antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistant infections are more complex and harder to treat. They can affect anyone, of any age, in any country.

Think twice. Seek advice

Antibiotics aren't always the answer. Always seek the advice of a healthcare professional before taking antibiotics.

Our time with antibiotics is running out

Antibiotics are in danger of losing their effectiveness due to misuse and overuse, and in many cases they aren't even needed.

Misusing and overusing antibiotics puts us all at risk

Taking antibiotics when they are not needed accelerates emergence of antibiotic resistance, one of the biggest threats to global health.

Everyone has a role to play

You can help prevent antibiotic resistance. Preventing infection can reduce the use of antibiotics, and limit the spread of antibiotic resistance. Good basic hygiene is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of infection.

According to the public relations report, Dr. Mehdi Zanganeh, Vice Chancellor for Public Health of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, said: “Due to the identification ofAedesmosquitos in some cities of the country as well as in the southern cities of the province, strict control measures is being carried out at the borders areas of the province by healthcare workers”.

Vice Chancellor for Health of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences added: Given the fact that the province has long common borders with Pakistan and significant cross border population movements in the province in line with implementing International Health Regulations (IHR), preventive measures including increasing surveillance sites (sampling areas), increasingAedesmosquitos entomological surveillance sites (surveying larval habitats, ovitrapping) are being implemented.

Emphasizing on the border health surveillance, he said: “In addition to 2 official border health care centers, 2 makeshift border health care centers have been activated in Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, and all travelers are monitored and screened for dengue fever”.

He continued: “Training workshops on the treatment of diseases transmitted by theAedsmosquito (Dengue fever, Chikungunya Zika) have been held for health teams, and entomological checks are also carried out from the sites ofAedsentomological sampling sites.

Dr. Zanganeh stated that the most important way to prevent the spread ofAedesmosquito is to improve the environment and added: “The habitat and reproduction ofAedesmosquito is stagnant water such as water containers under air conditioners, containers under pots, water storage containers without lids, ponds and reservoirs, elevator shafts and the used tires left in the neighborhoods where there collect rain waters, and the improvement of these waters is considered the best way to prevent their growth and proliferation of this vector”.

In the end, he added: “Dengue fever is a viral disease that is transmitted byAedesmosquitoes. People may contract this disease through the bites of mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus. When a mosquito carrying the dengue virus bites a human, the virus enters the person's bloodstream and initiates the infection.
