A workshop on the internationalization of medical education from theory to practice held at Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, February 2024
The Medical Education Development Center (EDC) at Zahedan University of Medical Sciences organized an international workshop on "Internationalization of Higher Education from Theory to Practice" with a presentation by Dr. Enayatollah Shabani, Dean of International College at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. The workshop was held on Thursday, February 7, 2024, with the presence of the chancellor of ZAUMS and faculty members.

The Medical Education Development Center (EDC) at Zahedan University of Medical Sciences organized an international workshop on "Internationalization of Higher Education from Theory to Practice" with a presentation by Dr. Enayatollah Shabani, Dean of International College,Tehran University of Medical Sciences. The workshop was held on Thursday, February 7, 2024, with the presence of the chancellor of ZAUMS and faculty members.
The aim of this workshop was to examine the existing challenges in the internationalization of education and present available solutions.
Dr. Shabani, at the beginning of the meeting, stated that internationalization is the process of integrating an international, intercultural, and global dimension into the purpose, functions (teaching, research, service), or delivery of higher education at institutional and national levels.
After receiving comments from the faculty members regarding the existing challenges and the intended solution, he examined some challenges such as: Assigning the responsibility of international student admissions to educational groups, including internationalization as part of the duties of deans, allocating a separate budget for internationalization, defining an international deputy in educational groups, and etc.
Furthermore, he emphasized the priorities that officials at ZAUMS should focus on regarding the internationalization of education including:
- Introducing the campus and marketing
- Capacity building
- Curriculum adaptation/internationalization
- International joint/dual degree programs
- Promoting the use of an international language for instruction
- Ensuring a user-friendly application process
- Setting tuition fees that are reasonably acceptable
- Fostering international research collaborations
- Facilitating faculty/staff/student mobility, student recruitment, and development projects.
In conclusion, Dr. Ghaznavi, the Chancellor of ZAUMS, requested the vice chancellors and faculty members to make maximum efforts and commitment towards the internationalization of education at Zahedan University of Medical Sciences.
