According to the World Health Organization definition: “Infertility is a disease of the male or female reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse”.
Infertility affects millions of people – and has an impact on their families and communities. Estimates suggest that approximately one in every six people of reproductive age worldwide experience infertility in their lifetime.
Advanced methods of infertility treatment, including IUI (Intrauterine Insemination), ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), and ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology), are provided at the Ali Ibn Abitalib (PBUH) Infertility Treatment Center in Zahedan.
According to the Public Relations report by Dr. Marzieh Ghasemi, the Director of the Mowlood Infertility Treatment Center in Zahedan, she stated: "With the use of the advanced treatment methods provided at this center, including IUI, ICSI, and ART, a total of 1,720 couples who were suffering from infertility issues have become parents."
She further added: "In the past five years, we have had 720 live births through IVF and over 1,000 live births following other treatment methods, including IUI, medical treatments, laparoscopy, and hysteroscopy, at the Mowlood Infertility Treatment Center."
Dr. Ghasemi identified one of the effective solutions for achieving the goals of The Youth Population Program in Iran as providing infertility treatment services and assisting infertile couples.
She stated: According to the statistics of the WHO, 10 to 15 percent of couples are infertile, and the causes of this infertility can be related to the woman, the man, or both.
Dr. Ghasemi , the Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at ZAUMS, she added: “Generally, 35 to 45 percent of infertility cases are related to women, 20 to 40 percent are related to men, and 15 percent remain unexplained”.
She emphasized that physical examinations and performing tests are the first step in evaluating couples and determining the cause of infertility in both men and women. After identifying the cause of infertility, the treating physician recommends the most suitable treatment method based on the conditions and needs of each couple.
She continued that in most cases, the most appropriate treatment method is the use of assisted reproductive technologies (ART), which includes various methods such as intrauterine insemination (IUI), artificial insemination (ICSI, IVF), and zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT).
