We are delighted to announce that Zahedan University of Medical Sciences has been ranked at 801–1000 in the World University Rankings 2025.

Dr. Habib Ghaznavi, chancellor of ZAUMS, announced this impressive achievement during a meeting with the Governor of Sistan and Baluchestan Province and a group of Academic members and ZAUMS managers.  He stated, "Zahedan University of Medical Sciences was ranked between 2000 and 2200 in the Islamic World Science Citation Database (ISC) for the past three years.  This year, based on the most prestigious world university ranking system (Times ranking), the Zahedan University of Medical Sciences has been ranked at 801–1000 in the World University Rankings2025 among universities in basic sciences, engineering, and medicine. Furthermore, we have secured 618th place among medical universities worldwide."

Dr. Ghaznavi continued, "This great honor is a result of the remarkable and impactful scientific and research endeavors of our researchers and professors, as well as the accountability of all our departments. In some aspects of achievements, we have surpassed Michigan University in the US, Ataturk University in Turkey, and the University of Madrid in Spain."

He also shared the news that seven faculty members from ZAUMS have been listed among the world's top scientists.  "In the latest ranking of the scientists in this year, three of our faculty members are among the top 1% of scientists worldwide, and seven are among the top 2%. This achievement is due to the tireless efforts of each faculty member, staff, and student."

According to a report by Mehr News Agency, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2025 has ranked over 2,000 institutions from 115 countries and regions. In this ranking, universities are assessed based on 18 indicators across five key fields: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.

In the 2025 Times ranking, Iran has 84 universities listed, with 4 universities classified as "reporters" have submitted their documentation for ranking but have not met the necessary criteria to receive a ranking.

Turkey has 111 universities in the Times 2025 rankings, with 20 universities classified as "reporters." Additionally, there are 34 universities from Saudi Arabia in the Times 2025 ranking, with 5 universities listed as "reporters."

The top university in Iran according to the Times Higher Education 2025 ranking is Sharif University of Technology, which is placed in the global ranking range of 301-350, maintaining the same position as last year. In Turkey, the top university is Koç University, which falls within the ranking range of 351-400 and has also not changed its position compared to last year. In Saudi Arabia, the top university is King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, which has achieved a global ranking of 176. This university was ranked in the range of 201-250 in the 2024 Times ranking.

In this ranking, Sharif University of Technology has secured the national first place by being in the 301-350 ranking range, followed by Amir Kabir University of Technology and Iran University of Science and Technology, which jointly hold the second place nationally with a ranking range of 351-400. Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences and Tehran University of Medical Sciences occupy the third national position with a ranking range of 401-500.

In the Times Higher Education 2025 ranking, 11 new Iranian universities have been included in the list of top universities in the world. These universities are Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, Alborz University of Medical Sciences, Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences, Golestan University of Medical Sciences, Lorestan University of Medical Sciences, Birjand University of Medical Sciences, Golestan University of Medical Sciences, Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, Hamadan University of Medical Sciences, Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences, and Vali-e-Asr University of Rafsanjan. However, 5 universities (Kashan University of Medical Sciences, Jundishapur University of Ahvaz, Kurdistan University, Semnan University of Medical Sciences, and Shahid Beheshti University) that were included in the 2024 Times ranking have been removed from the 2025 list.

An analysis of the rankings of Iranian universities compared to the 2024 ranking shows that only 5 universities—Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Kerman University of Medical Sciences, and Zanjan University of Medical Sciences—managed to improve their rankings.

The ranking of 20 universities, including Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz University, Imam Khomeini International University, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University, Kashan University, Ardabil University of Mohaghegh, Lorestan University, Qom University of Medical Sciences, Razi University, Chamran University of Ahvaz, Shahrekord University, Maragheh University, Mazandaran University, University of Rehabilitation and Social Health, Yazd University, Allameh Tabatabai University, Hormozgan University, Qom University, and Zanjan University, has declined in the Times 2025 ranking.

This detailed analysis indicates that simply increasing the number of universities in international rankings is not necessarily a sign of improvement in the status of universities; rather, evaluating the performance of each university provides a clearer picture of their status.
