According to the public relations report, Dr. Khodadad Sheikhzadeh, Technical Deputy of Vice Chancellery for Health, Zahedan University of Medical Sciences said: “With a support of Iran’s Ministry of Health and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the first tuberculosis screening campaign which aimed to identify tuberculosis patients among all non-Iranian nationals was conducted for three months between January to March 2023. In this campaign more than 75 thousand non-Iranian nationals were screened and 29 new TB cases were identified.

Technical Deputy of Vice Chancellery for Health of the university added: “Since the beginning of the implementation of this campaign, more than 69 thousand Afghan nationals have been screened in the area covered by Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, of which 627 suspected cases were identified, and after diagnostic procedures, 33 patients with tuberculosis were identified. and have received free anti-tuberculosis treatment.

He said: This door-to-door campaign is being actively implemented targeting Afghan nationals in all comprehensive health service centers covered by the Zahedan University of Medical Sciences.

Zahedan University of Medical Sciences has launched an active TB screening program targeting Afghan refugees in September 2020. The program will be conducted with the participation of 92 screening teams comprising Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) along with disease prevention and control experts from Zahedan University of Medical Sciences.
