The fourth meeting of the internationalization council of the Zahedan University of Medical Sciences (ZAUMS) was held on Tuesday, 22/11/2022, with the presence of the Chancellor and vice chancellors of the university and a group of managers.

At the beginning of the session, Dr. Habib Ghaznavi, the chancellor of the university, pointing out that the admission of foreign students has a significant effect on improving the ranking of the university, called for the planning to provide quality facilities and accommodation services for international students. Also, he considered the holding of lectures in English as an effective step to improve the English language skills of faculty members, staff and students. Considering the capacities of Nabi Akram (PBUH) Hospital in Zahedan, he also requested to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for offering services to international patients.

In this meeting, Dr. Seyed Mehdi Tabatabai, Adviser to Chancellor for International Affairs, emphasized the need to change the attitude of the faculty members, staff and students in preparation for training international students, and to pay special attention to holding educational workshops, called for the necessary planning to implement those activities. He said that by the end of this year, 4 internationalization related workshops have been planned with the following topics: Internationalization at Home, Health Diplomacy, English for Conferences and Oral Presentation, and International grant writing.

He also emphasized on signing contracts with licensed International Student Recruitment Agencies to expedite the admission of international students, given the fact the tuition fees are reasonably affordable at ZAUMS. He noted that we are planning to offer free of charge accommodation, meals and other welfare facilities for the international students.

Empowering faculty members by providing incentives for the maximum participation of faculty members in international programs Internationalization, holding workshops for the internationalization of education for faculty members, holding workshops on modern teaching methods, holding scientific lecture sessions in English, especially inviting international guest professors, issuance of educational certificate for speakers of scientific lecture sessions in English, were among other suggestions.

In order to introduce the capacities of the university, he requested to update the English website of the schools, research centers and hospitals affiliated to the university, to introduce a member of the faculty members as the focal point of the internationalization of the school"s education in order to accelerate the internationalization programs, to hold regular international meetings and presenting a report to the Vice-Chancellor of Education on a monthly basis, preparing content for updating the university fact book, preparing advertising brochures to introduce the educational and health tourism capacities of the university to be presented at the Islamic Republic of Iran"s Solo Trade Exhibition that will be held in Karachi , Pakistan 14-17 January 2023, and designation of the university"s accreditation and ranking monitoring team.

The Vice-chancellor for cultural and Students Affairs was requested to make the necessary planning for holding "International Story Circles" by inviting several international students who are studying in the country"s universities in order to promote intercultural competencies of the students and stuff.

Considering the attendance of a delegation from ZAUMS at the Islamic Republic of Iran"s Solo Trade Exhibition that will be held in Karachi, Pakistan 14-17 January 2023, and also planning to meet with the officials of the Aga Khan University of Karachi and the health directors of the provinces of Sindh and Baluchistan, it was decided that research centers, schools and the vice chancellors for Health to highlight the areas for building collaboration and partnership with Pakistan universities. Dr. Saberi, the Director of the Health Technology Development of the university, also suggested planning to visit active industries in the field of health and exchange experiences of cooperation between the university and the industry during the trip to Pakistan.
