World Health Organization country Office in Tehran to support the collaboration between the Pakistan Health Department and Medical Institutes and Zahedan University of Medical Sciences
The representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Iran and Head of Mission, Dr. Syed Jaffar Hussain in a videoconference meeting that vas held on 31 August 2022 regarding exploring areas for collaboration with Pakistan universities and health authorities stated that there is a very high capacity for the development of health, medical and educational cooperation and collaboration between Iran and Pakistan, and he proposed establishing a relationship with Aga Khan University in Karachi and Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS) in Quetta, and with Zahedan University of Medical Sciences in the field of medical sciences education.

Referring to the holding of the upcoming G5 meeting that is planned to be held in Tehran, Iran in 5-6 September 2022, with the presence of delegations from Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and the World Health Organization, he said: the capacity of the G5 group should be used in the development of joint health cooperation between the two countries of Iran and Pakistan.
The readiness of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences for joint training of health workforce in neighboring countries
Advisor to the Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences in international affairs, Dr. Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, in this video-conference meeting with Dr. Syed Jaffar Hussainn, and World Health Organization (WHO) senior country office experts in Iran, emphasized on the readiness of this university to expand health, medical and educational cooperation with neighboring countries and said: Zahedan University of Medical Sciences has a very strong potential for joint training programs and capacity building in terms of the human resources development of the countries in the region.
He pointed out the need to strengthen the cooperation of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences with neighboring countries in the field of health tourism and said: Currently, in the health science and technology park of the university, knowledge-based companies are operating in the field of medical tourism, and he has witnessed the presence of visitors from Pakistan. , Afghanistan, Oman, etc.
Referring to the 36-year activity of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei said: Currently, this university has more than 400 faculty members, 6 faculties, 10 hospitals, and more than 4,500 students enrolled in Bachelor"s degrees to PhD programs.
Referring to the recent flood in Pakistan that more than one-third of Pakistan is submerged in water and at least 33 million people are affected because of unprecedented flood, Dr. Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei emphasized the full readiness of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences to help the Pakistani flood victims and said: This University is ready to provide Pakistan with relief aid, and to deploy public health and medical teams to the flood-hit areas in Pakistan.
The adviser to the Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences in international affairs also emphasized the cooperation between the two countries of Iran and Pakistan to solve regional public health problems with a focus on the implementation of international health Regulations (IHR) on both sides of the border and said: the existence of two border crossings, Mirjaveh and Rimdan, between Iran and Pakistan has a very suitable capacity to develop joint health and medical cooperation and conduct applied research to solve regional health problems.
