Zahedan University of Medical Sciences on the track of expanding international cooperation: Boosting public health and treatment services collaboration between Iran and
In a video conference meeting held with health officials of Balkh Province, Afghanistan, on February 6, 2023, the Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, while referring to the history of the university and the existing infrastructure in Sistan and Baluchestan Province’s Health System, said: "There is a very high capacity for the boosting of public health, treatment and educational cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan."

In a video conference meeting held with health officials of Balkh Province, Afghanistan, on February 6, 2023, the Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, while referring to the history of the university and the existing infrastructure in Sistan and Baluchestan Province"s Health System, said: "There is a very high capacity for the boosting of public health, treatment and educational cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan."
Dr. Habib Ghaznavi pointed out the most important areas of cooperation between the two countries and said: " Training of healthcare workers and empowering human resources through conducting short-term and long-term training courses according to the needs of Afghanistan Health System, expansion of cooperation in the field of control and management of communicable diseases, such as tuberculosis, malaria and cholera, and non-communicable diseases can be among the main areas of cooperation between the two countries."
He continued: "Sistan and Baluchestan Province, due to its proximity to Afghanistan and Pakistan and the existence of suitable infrastructures in the field of education, has the potential to train applicants from Afghanistan in specialty programs." He continued: "Geographical, religious, and cultural commonalities have caused our people to have many relations with people from Afghanistan."
Dr. Ghaznavi further pointed out that" About 20% of the population covered by Zahedan University of Medical Sciences are Afghan nationals and all primary health care services such as vaccination, maternal and child health services, screening for and treatment of T.B, Malaria, COVID-19, and other communicable diseases are free of charge. We are offering those services regardless of the nationality."
He also referred to the participation in the G5 group and meeting delegation from Afghanistan"s Ministry of Health and said: the capacity of the G5 group should be used in the field of developing joint health and medical cooperation.
Dr. Rezvani, the representative of the international Cooperation Office, Iran"s Ministry of Health, stated that: "Health and treatment knows no borders and common problems in the field of health should be solved through the joint cooperation of neighboring countries."
He continued: "Zahedan University of Medical Sciences has a very good capacity to develop joint healthcare cooperation and conduct applied research to solve regional health problems." He praised and appreciated the special efforts of the university Chancellor, and managers for the development of health and treatment in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
Adviser to the Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences for International Affairs, stating that the Iran"s Ministry of Health and Zahedan University of Medical Sciences are determined to strengthen and expand cooperation with neighboring countries. He said: "Due to the existence of specialized and sub-specialized hospitals affiliated with of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, we are ready to deliver short-term and long-term specialized courses according to the needs of the country of Afghanistan.
Dr. Seyed Mehdi Tabatabai continued: "The Al-Zahra (S) Hospital as a specialized and sub-specialized center for ophthalmology and otolaryngology in the country, as a center of excellence of ophthalmology in the country, is one of the key educational infrastructures affiliated with ZAUMS that provides services to patient, in addition to training specialty and sub-specialty physicians."
He continued: "We are in the process of obtaining permission from the Ministry of Health to accept assistant students in the international field."
Dr. Tabatabeai also invited the health officials of Balkh Province of Afghanistan to visit the capacities of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences.
It is worth mentioning that in this meeting that was held on the morning of Monday 17th of Bahman 1401 in the meeting hall of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, the health officials of Balkh province of Afghanistan welcomed the expansion of educational and therapeutic cooperation with Zahedan University of Medical Sciences.
