Dr. Hashemi-Shahri Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences in a meeting with the Director General of Sistan and Balouchestan Nomads Affairs stated that the nomads are a source of pride for our country and added that for the first time Nomads Health Houses have been planned and four nomads health homes will be set up in the district under Zahedan University of Medical Sciences coverage by the end of this year, so that more focused- services are rendered to the nomad population.

In a briefing session with provincial mass media, Chancellor of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences Dr. Hasheni-Shahri stated that in the first phase of free distribution of influenza vaccine priority is given to high risk groups including pregnant women, patients with cancer, thalassemia, and hemophilia, as well as transplant recipients, prisoners and disabled patients.

Zahedan University of Medical Sciences has launched an active TB screening program targeting Afghan refugees in September 2020. The program will be conducted with the participation of 92 screening teams comprising Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) along with disease prevention and control experts from Zahedan University of Medical Sciences. This national project is supported by the Global Fund TB in collaboration with Iran’s Ministry of Health and is being simultaneously implemented in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The program has been planned to be implemented during one month time, and the target group of this project is 70,000 Afghan refugees with legal residential permits.

We are here to support you, nurses and midwives and fellow health workers” said Dr. Christoph Hamelmann, the WHO Representative in the Islamic Republic of Iran in a joint video message with the Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MoHME).

In this program, one person in each family is trained as a "Health Ambassador" and is empowered to take care of the health of themselves, their family and community. Training and empowerment of family health ambassadors is done by the healthcare workers team in health service delivery units.

Healthcare workers are on the front lines of the global effort to care for patients with COVID-19, while putting themselves at risk for infection. More than 170 Iranian physicians, nurses, assistants, technicians, EMTs, public healthcare workers, orderlies, volunteers, and more — fresh on the job or retired, have already died, across the country.

All educational centers in Iran were closed from late February. With no end in sight for the Covid-19 outbreak, schools in Iran reopened on September 16, after almost three months of closures. According to the latest decisions announced by Iran’s coronavirus taskforce, students have returned to classrooms for the start of the new school year in September this year.
